Robustel R5020 5G Router

Robustel R5020 5G Router

The Robustel R5020 5G Router is the first 5G-capable router in the Robustel range, supporting global 5G, 4G and 3G bands in a compact industrial form factor. It enables rapid deployment of high-speed IoT applications in verticals as diverse as Transportation, Enterprise Connectivity and Digital Signage.

The R5020 Industrial 5G Router leverages the tried-and-tested high performance CPU platform and RobustOS – a mature and stable Operating System developed in-house by Robustel. R5020 is compatible with 3GPP Release 15 and is designed for use by the following applications:

In-vehicle applications: Whether it is passenger WiFi, CCTV debrief, ticketing or a similar “onboard” requirement, the R5020 offers a simple and effective solution to increase internet speeds and future-proof current installations. The R5020 has achieved E-Mark certification for in-vehicle use, and supports GNSS positioning. A version with vehicle ignition sensing is available to protect vehicle batteries when the engine is off.

Broadband Failover: The R5020 can be configured to use Ethernet or Wifi as primary internet and failover to 4G/5G in the event of an outage.  This can help to provide resilience to outlets such as shops and small offices at a reasonable cost, and provide sufficient bandwidth for multiple users.  IPsec, DMVPN and Open VPN protocols can be used for connections into core networks.

Primary Broadband: Cellular networks can now provide unlimited 5G tariffs at very reasonable prices, offering hundreds of Mbps internet over the air. For many, a chance to cut the cables and use a wireless internet connection can be technically or commercially favourable.

R5020 Key Features:

  • Global 5G/4G/3G cellular connections
  • Supports Ethernet, Wifi and 4G/5G internet with auto-failover
  • Very cost-effective industrial 5G router solution
  • Fully programmable Operating System with well documented SDK
  • Multiple VPN options available including DMVPN & IPSEC
  • GNSS, ignition sense & E-mark make R5020 ideal for vehicles
  • Free cloud management platform – RCMS
  • Robust metal enclosure with small footprint – DIN-rail + wall mount options

Using the Robustel R5020 With a Fixed IP SIM Card

If you intend to use the Robustel R5020 Industrial 5G Router for a remote monitoring or management application, or maybe just need a fixed, public IP address for your office Internet connection then the Robustel 5G router will work with a 4G or 5G Fixed IP SIM Card and is easy to configure.

Once you have connected your PC to the Robustel R5020 (default IP is 192.168.0.1 and user name and password are admin/admin) then on the left hand menu click on INTERFACE and then click on LINK MANAGER.

Under LINK SETTINGS you will see WWAN1 and WWAN2 – these are for the SIM1 and SIM2 slots so can be configured with the APN settings for each SIM.  NB: the Robustel R5020 is a dual SIM router for the purpose of SIM failover.  This means that if the primary network SIM (WWAN1) becomes unavailable then the router can switch to the backup SIM card in SIM slot 2 (WWAN2).  The Robustel 5G router will not provide you with two simultaneous 4G or 5G connections and cannot provide a bonded 5G Internet service.

If using a single SIM card, inserted in SIM slot 1 then edit WWAN1 which brings up a new page – you will need to hit the drop down box called WWAN settings and this will let you enter the Fixed IP SIM card APN settings.

Here you can enter your APN settings eg wlapn4.com, set the authentication eg. PAP and enter any user name and password given to you by your fixed IP SIM card provider.

You can then SUBMIT these settings and save and apply and the R5020 will apply the settings and attempt to connect to the 4G/5G network using the SIM card credentials provided in the settings.
